A Life Most Unkind

No peace, no stop, no rest from the madness.
Society’s a mess and getting worse.
People die and people mourn their loss but
It doesn’t stop, no not ever stopping.
The death, the tears, the fears, the wars, the loss,
The suicide, the genocide and more.
It’s all never stopping never ending
And it quickly becomes too much to bear.

But life and love and peace through the pain still
Happen to those who push through their trials.
Donations of time, money, energy
Given without thanks or recognition.
Life may be tough for ev’ryone on earth,
But it does not have to be all sorrow.

The Big Day

Time flies when you’re having fun.
It also flies when you’re panicking
And unfortunately it was time.
Time to play in his first big concert.

It was a long and hard trip here
With his brothers in music.
From the garage to back of trucks
To little bars and smaller churches.

They lived on ramen and caffeine
For months at a time while on the road
Travelling to whoever would listen
To just a note or two for a bit of money.

First cd was done by themselves
And sold well enough to get them out.
Word of mouth made them spread
More than their travellings all over.

All it took was the right person
To find a copy and to trip upon a concert
And they had a record deal and money.
Now here they were.  This was it.

Their introduction echoes in his head
And his heart and the crowds roars.
They give each other looks that speak
More than words and then they walked out.

It was time to fulfill their dreams.

Going Home

I slowly unpacked in my too clean room
It was no longer as comfortable as it used to be.
I need to be reacquainted with it to feel at home.

Downstairs in the living room was different.
The couch was occupied by my dad and dog.
My dad often laying down now that he’s sick.

The two recliners had my mom and brother.
The loveseat was occupied by my older brother
And everything he used or ate while there.

None of them looked up and sat up.
The only seat available was the floor,
So I moved my brother’s stuff.

The story repeated again and again.
I had been gone and they had adjusted.
And I had outgrown my spot.

Horror of Horrors

Bill’s vs. Patriots football game at Ralph Wilson stadium,
Home of the Buffalo Bills.  Two Patriots fans with nothing to do,
Go to the game with $50 a piece to spend.  They got to the game
With jerseys and free parking but no money for food and drink.

The Patriots lost to their great sadness and surprise.  Away they went
To their Bills’ fan friend’s house to fill their aching stomachs.
To their dismay, they got greatly lost on the way to the house,
And once their they were mocked for the embarrassing loss.
